ALVECHURCH could have to play five games in six days in a hectic end to their Midlands Premier campaign.

The Lye Meadow kick-off a testing week this evening at second place rivals Sporting Khalsa before welcoming the Willenhall-based outfit in Worcestershire tomorrow night (both 7.45pm ko).

Church entertain Long Eaton at home on Thursday night and complete the league campaign at Coleshill on Saturday (3pm ko).

The club are also still awaiting to see if they will have to play Bardon Hill at the Meadow after last weekend's game was abandoned because the East Midlands outfit were unable to raise a side.

Manager Ian Long is hoping the club will be awarded three points, instead of having to play the match before the end of the season on Saturday.

However, a Midlands Football League spokesman confirmed that they were in talks with both clubs and were set to reschedule the fixture for a later date.

To further muddy the waters, the league will allow clubs to extend the season by a week but only if they are not involved in promotion or relegation matters.

Leaders Hereford can seal the league title at Coventry Sphinx tonight with a win, which means Church could conceivably play Bardon on May 7.

Long said: "We are in limbo a bit at the moment but I hope that we are awarded the points for the Bardon Hill match.

"I know there are extenuating circumstances but there is no excuse for not being able to field a team at our level of football.

"We want Hereford to drop points against Coventry so we can push them all the way but we'll see what happens."

Bardon Hill issued a statement, saying: "We would like to unreservedly apologise to Alvechurch FC, the committee and board of the Midland Football League and the member clubs of the Premier Division for having to cancel the fixture at short notice.

"We tried everything within our power to get enough players to enable us to play the fixture, but as of 11am on Saturday morning we only had seven players available, this total including team management."

Long also bemoaned clubs bringing in players from higher levels of football on dual contracts for one-off games.

Khalsa were expected to drafted in Stourbridge right back Kristian Green and former Redditch United striker Josh McKenzie.
