BROMSGROVE Ladies brushed off missing four key squad members to defeat Pershore 5-2 in Worcestershire League Division One.

After weathering a bit of early Pershore pressure, Bromsgrove took the lead when a penalty corner eventually forced an own goal.

Bromsgrove started to controlthe game and several chances went begging before they extended their lead with a wonderful team goal.

Central defender Emma Cockbain won the ball in her own half before passing into the path of Stacey Nash, who picked out Laura Underhill, who rounded a defender before finding Tricky Burton.

Burton isolated one defender then rammed the ball home from close in.

Early in the second half, Bromsgrove went further ahead as Underhill hammered home an unstoppable shot.

It became 4-0 shortly after when Burton was strongest in a tussle with the Pershore goalkeeper and pushed the ball into the goal.

Pershore kept battling and scored following a good attack. But Bromsgrove bounced straight back.

Burton drew the goalkeeper before squaring the ball for Nash to turn it home.

“This was a fine team effort, by the girls” said Coach Alan Gormley.

“We knew Pershore were a good side so we had to put everything into this game, especially as we were so short of players in the squad.

“To their credit the girls worked tirelessly for each other and thoroughly deserved their victory.”

The seconds drew 0-0 against Tenbury but nearly snatched victory in the last minute but the shot from Wendy Martin rolled agonisingly wide.

The thirds enjoyed a 3-0 win over Stourport fifths Goals came from Nina Hobson, Clare Rippin and Sal White.

The ladies fourth team continued their fine season with a win 1-0 away to local neighbours Droitwich.

Ellie McVeigh scored the game’s only goal.

l Bromsgrove Men secured a solid 6-0 victory over Solihull Blossomfield in West Midlands Division One.

A hat-trick from man of the match Mark Robinson and further goals from Alex Jenkins, Harry Eastgate and Andy Langlands sealed victory.

They face Wolverhampton on Saturday and then tackle Ludlow in a cup match on Sunday.
