BROMSGROVE’S Jo Frost smashed the British Outdoor Masters record which has stood for 30 years as she powered to long jump gold at the World Masters Athletics Championships.

The 37-year-old, who works full time for Worcestershire County Council, works hard to fit training in and around a variety of commitments.

This commitment started to be rewarded when the Bromsgrove and Redditch AC member won both the 100m and long jump at the British Masters Championships earlier in the year.

Her good form saw her awarded a coveted Great Britain vest to represent her country on the international stage for the first time at the World Masters Athletics Championships, competing in the over-35s long jump and 100m.

Frost won her 100m heat, placed third in the semi-final and seventh in the final but was disappointed with her performances which she felt were somewhat affected by the 40 degree heat. But she bounced back in the long jump.

The competition was led from the start by Australia’s Melissa Foster with a jump of 5.72 metres but Frost improved throughout the competition and clinched gold with a leap of 5.91m.

Her next major focus is the European Masters Indoor Championships, which take place next Spring in Ancona, Italy where she hopes to compete in both the 60m and the long jump.
