BROMSGROVE Sporting manager Paul Smith was beaming with pride after his side set a new club record of wins to set up a season-defining week.

The Rouslers notched up an eighth straight win in the Midlands Division One as they put Racing Club Warwick to the sword 10-1 on Saturday.

That kept their hopes of winning the league alive going into tonight’s all-important league clash at Atherstone.

Sporting need to pick up all three points in Warwickshire and hope leaders Highgate United slip up against Coventry Copsewood.

If that happens then Sporting, who have a superior goal-difference, would seal the title and automatic promotion if they defeat Nuneaton Grif at the Victoria Ground on Saturday (3pm ko).

Smith said: “All we can do is get three points against Atherstone and see what happens in Coventry.

“Copsewood is not an easy place to go and we must make sure we win because you can imagine how we would feel if we were to lose if Coventry do slip up.

"But I cannot ask any more of my players we've eight games in a row, will finish in the top two and are in the JW Hunt Cup final."

Will Tibbetts and Reece Hewitt were set to be available for the Atherstone clash after missing the weekend’s win over Warwick.

Chris Conway bagged a hat-trick as they recorded their biggest win of the season.

Sporting had been leading 3-1 at half-time before they found their ruthless finishing touch.

“We had played well in the first half and created plenty of chances but we took all of them after the break.

“The best we played all season was against Bolehall Swifts last Tuesday but this was not far off.”
