BROMSGROVE head coach Dan Protherough could not have been more pleased after his side got back on track with a 28-24 win over Peterborough Lions.

The Boars ended a three-game losing run to get the better of Lions, who had previously been one of the National Three Midlands’ in-form teams, with one of their best performances of the campaign.

Victory cemented their mid-table spot and also built on an encouraging display in last week’s narrow loss to Old Hales.

Overall, it has been an encouraging first third of the season for the Finstall Park outfit, who have recovered from last season’s relegation.

“It was important to build on the Old Hales performance and I was pleased with the response of the players,” commented Protherough.

“It was also good to see us get that win and end our losing run, the players deserved it for their hard work.

“We showed good spirit because we even conceded a try early on but battled back and earned the win.

“The team has really come together over the last few weeks and hopefully we can keep this up.”

Protherough has talked a lot about the young players and the likes of Matt Edgar, who completed a fine display with a try, and Jamie Tsang have started to find their best form.

First team stalwarts such James Lloyd-Jones, Jon Critchlow and Phil Horton, who deputised as skipper after Phil Norris went off with an injury, also had impressive games.

Protherough added: “The young players are really playing well, we even had Sam Montieri make his debut, which is another positive to take out of the game.”

The Boars are now eighth in the table in the league with six wins and five defeats.

Bromsgrove do not have a fixture on Saturday but they do face Worcester Warriors away in the North Midlands Plate tomorrow night.

Their next league fixture is an away trip to fourth-placed Sandbach on Saturday, December 6.
