A NUMBER of flood alerts have been issued for Worcestershire by the Environment Agency following the heavy rain of recent days.

There are currently six alerts and one warning in place.

Flood alerts mean flooding is possible, while the more severe flood warnings mean flooding is expected.

Flood alerts are in place at:

  • Barbourne Brook
  • Bow and Piddle Brook
  • Lower Teme
  • Flood alert for River Severn in Worcestershire
  • River Salwarpe
  • River Arrow and River Alne

Flood warning in place at:

  • River Teme at Stanford Bridge

Flood alert for Barbourne Brook:

The alert states: "River levels remain high but are beginning to fall at the Perdiswell river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, the risk of flooding remains.

"We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to Barbourne Brook from the M5 to Barbourne including Perdiswell and Blackpole Industrial Estate.

"River levels are falling, but still pose a flood risk, and further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are clearing weed screens.

"Please plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

Flood alert for Bow and Piddle Brook:

The alert states: "River levels are rising at the Besford Bridge river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected from today, 28/03/24.

"We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the Brooks from Webheath to Defford. Other locations that may be affected include Crowle, Wickenham, Peopleton, Pinvin and Pershore. Local fords may also be flooded.

"Further unsettled weather is forecast over the next 24 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until tomorrow, 29/03/24.

"We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid contact with flood water and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

Lower Teme:

The alert states: "River levels have risen at the Bransford river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible this afternoon, 28/03/24.

"We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Teme from Ludlow to Bransford. Locations that may be affected include Tenbury Wells and Knightwick.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days. We expect river levels to remain high until Sunday 31/03/24.

"We are closely monitoring the situation.

"Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

River Severn in Worcestershire:

The alert states: "River levels are rising at the Bewdley, Worcester, Diglis, Kempsey and Saxons Lode river gauges as a result of heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible from this morning Thursday, 28/03/2024. We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river from Highley to Tewkesbury.

"Locations affected are Stourport, Holt Fleet, Worcester, Kempsey, Severn Stoke and Upton upon Severn. People have been told to install property-level protection if required.

"Predicted peaks expected Friday afternoon, 29/03/2024:- Bewdley 3.0 to 3.3m, Worcester 4.1 to 4.4m, Diglis 3.8 to 4.1m, Kempsey Yacht Club 6.0 to 6.3m, Saxons Lode 4.2 to 4.5m.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours, and we expect river levels to remain high for the next few days.

"Flood gates at Waterside and New Street in Upton will be closed from 1pm today, 28/03/2024.

"Please plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid contact with flood water."

River Salwarpe:

The alert states: "River levels remain high but are beginning to fall at the Harford Hill river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, the risk of flooding remains. We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the river from Catshill to Hawford. Other areas that may be affected include Stoke Heath, Elmley Lovett, Droitwich Spa and Ombersley.

Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours. We expect river levels to remain high until the weekend."

Flood alert for River Arrow and River Alne:

The alert states: "River levels are high but steady at the Little Alne gauge as a result of the persistent heavy rainfall overnight. Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is expected today, 28/03/24.

"We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Arrow between Studley and Salford Priors and the River Alne between Bird in Hand and Alcester on the River Alne including farmland and caravan parks.

"Further rainfall is forecast this afternoon and evening.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.

"Please avoid using low-lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

"Stay aware in case further warnings are issued.

"Flood alert area: Low-lying land and roads between Studley and Salford Priors on the River Arrow and between Bird in Hand and Henley in Arden and Alcester on the River Alne including farmland and caravan parks."

Flood warning River Teme at Stanford Bridge:

The warning states: "River levels have risen at the Stanford Bridge river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

"Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is expected from 11:00 today Thursday 28/03/2024.

"We expect flooding to affect properties and roads in and around Stanford Bridge.

"Further rainfall is forecast over the next few days. We expect river levels to remain high until Saturday 30/03/24.

"We are closely monitoring the situation. Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and avoid contact with flood water."
