The brand-new site manager of a crematorium in Rubery has described the role as a "privilege".

Claire Montague, who was recently appointed as the new manager of Waseley Hills Cemetery and Crematorium, has been a valued member of the team since the Westerleigh Group site first opened in January 2022.

Ms Montague first started as a crematorium assistant at the company but has now worked her way up to the managerial position where she hopes to continue making a difference to the families that the team serves.

She said: "Coming to work every morning to such a beautiful location and working with a team of compassionate and supportive colleagues is a real privilege.

"It felt like this was the industry that I was always meant to be in."

The site manager started her career at West Midland Safari Park before joining the local council's home care team where she looked after people in the evenings.

After welcoming a second child, she wanted a job with more regular daytime hours so applied for a cremation technician and chapel attendant position.

Ms Montague worked in this position for four-and-a-half years before joining Waseley Hills.

She said: "In the first two years in the role, I learnt so much and after our former site manager left for pastures new, there was an opportunity for me to apply for the position.

"I was so pleased when I was offered the job especially at a time when we're opening a new cemetery within our grounds too.

"I am really excited to be at the helm of our beautiful crematorium and cemetery and to ensure we offer an exceptional bespoke service to all our families whether it be through a funeral service or lasting memorial for their loved one."
