An inspirational teacher with an "unwavering commitment to education" has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Chris Wickham teaches at Cutnall Green CofE Primary School and also plays a key role in organising events and promoting a positive learning environment for pupils.

He has been nominated for the 'New Teacher of the Year' award at the Worcestershire Education Awards 2024 by headteacher Ben King.

Mr King said: "Chris stands out as a deserving candidate for the New Teacher of the Year award due to his exceptional contributions to the field of education and in particular his dedication and commitment to enhancing learning through the use of digital technology.

"Numerous testimonials attest to the positive impact he has had on pupils, fostering an environment where they can excel academically and personally.

"Chris's unwavering commitment to education is evident through his pursuit of additional certifications such as becoming an Apple Teacher and active participation in professional development in particular in his role as our own Digital Innovator."

A parent at the school added: "He has been truly exceptional and has played a pivotal role in my children's growth.

"They have flourished remarkably, exhibiting newfound confidence and significant progress in their mathematical skills."

Mr King also praised Mr Wickham's ability to balance his teaching and home life by being a "fantastic dad to his young daughter" as well as sharing his learning with other staff members by holding regular CPD events.

Reacting to the nomination, Mr Wickham, from Diglis, said: "Firstly, I was delighted to hear about the nomination for the award and to read the kind words that Mr King had written. My teaching journey began back in September 2021 after deciding to complete my teacher training on a school's direct course with the Rivers Teaching Alliance in partnership with The University of Worcester.

"Following the course, I was able to obtain a job at one of my placement schools- Cutnall Green CofE Primary. I have received amazing support since being at Cutnall Green and I have loved every minute of it."
