A school in Alvechurch has created a set of "transformative" and innovative outdoor classrooms for its pupils.

Alvechurch CofE Middle School, which has around 435 students aged nine to 13 years, has invested in four garden rooms to help meet the changing needs of children at the school.

Each outdoor classroom has a thoughtful and bespoke design and offers a smaller learning environment with quiet spaces for teaching, meeting rooms for parents and visitors and spaces for those with behavioural and sensory needs.

Business development manager at Alvechurch CofE Middle School, Lisa Rees, said: "We have a great school and we found that the needs of the pupils were changing especially since the pandemic.

"We wanted to be better equipped to look after the pupils that we already have to enhance their learning environment.

"The new spaces are versatile and easily adapted to serve multiple purposes including timetabled learning spaces, meeting rooms, sensory rooms and a welcome area."

The new classrooms have been built in partnership with Cosy Garden Rooms and have already started having a positive impact on students.

This includes the fact that the new environment makes them feel calmer, less anxious and more engaged.

The newly installed outdoor classrooms are also another way of making the children feel closer to nature, providing educational benefits and creating a nurturing and warm environment.

This latest move is said to be another step towards modernising the school since they moved to the new site in 2008.
