The council has agreed a new multi-million-pound deal to improve the A38 in Bromsgrove.

Worcestershire County Council signed the contract with Colas, a world leader in transport infrastructure, for the delivery of seven schemes along the A38 as part of the latest phase of the Bromsgrove Route Enhancement Programme (BREP).

The scheme is set to begin in early 2024 and will include road improvements at key junctions and widening the carriageway to improve traffic flow and reduce unnecessary bottlenecks.

The BREP programme will also fee further improvements for pedestrians and cyclists.

Cabinet member with responsibility for the economy, infrastructure and skills, councillor Marc Bayliss, said: "We are pleased to award this significant A38 BREP contract to Colas following a detailed procurement process.

"The signing of this contract allows us to start work on the A38 BREP, improving traffic flow and the facilities for cycling and walking along the A38 through Bromsgrove.

"This scheme will provide vital benefits for the people of Bromsgrove and I'm sure that Colas will bring its significant experience to the project having worked successfully within the industry for many years. We look forward to working with them."

The total cost of the A38 BREP is just over £50 million with the Department for Transport committing to provide more than £43 million and the remainder will come from local developer contributions.

The A38 is known to experience significant congestion during peak times leading to unreliable journey times for residents and businesses, which is set to worsen if the improvements are not made.

Further schemes are being delivered through existing Worcestershire County Council contracts by Griffiths.

Executive Director for construction solutions at Colas Ltd, Sean Jeffery, said: "We are bringing together an experienced highways construction team from with Colas, working with our established supply chain to deliver this vital project for the West Midlands.

"It is a region we have a strong affiliation to and we are looking forward to improving connectivity for local communities."
