HUNDREDS of fundraisers braved the heat this weekend for a Bromsgrove blood cancer charity's Finstall fun run.

On Sunday, May 8, nearly 500 runners tackled the 5k and 10k races, taking off from Bromsgrove Rugby Club in 25 degree heat.

25-year-old Chris Silver snatched first prize, completing the race in an impressive 34 minutes, 57 seconds.

But the heat was too much for some runners, who required medical attention during the race.

Nonetheless, those taking part raised a grand total of £15,000 towards vital work to support people suffering with blood cancers and their families.

Those who raised more than £20 received a fundraising pack, finishers' medal and a new Bloodwise t-shirt.

Charity chairman Nicole Harris said: "I would like to thank everyone who took part and all friends and committees who helped today to make it such a great day."

The next Bloodwise event - the annual Forget Me Not walk - will take place on June 5. Visit bloodwise.org.uk for more details.
