VISITORS to Warwick Castle this summer will not only get the chance to revel in the fun and romance of this mediaeval entertainments and learning venue, but they could end up on stage performing in an exclusive stage show.

The Wicked Warwick stage show – part of the raucous medley of mayhem created by Horrible Histories – started on May 23 and will run to September 6.

Visitors had a chance to audition via video or in live castings on May 27 to win cameo roles in performances at the castle in June.

There’s even more Mediaeval Mayhem to May 31 and from July 18 to September 6 as characters from history tell tales of yesteryear – with the nasty bits left in.

The castle has a brand new attraction this year – the Time Tower – which uses visual technology to transport visitors from the Dark Ages to modern times.

This opportunity to take a whirlwind adventure quest through the castle’s rich and vibrant history was unveiled by TV historian and author Dan Jones. It uses 3D and 4D special effects to make history more fun.

On Friday July 10 at 5pm the Kaiser Chiefs, Professor Green and Ella Eyre will be on stage to wowing the crowds, while the following night at 6pm the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra performs a Sounds in The Grounds prom night building up to a spectacular firework display.

Other stunning sights include the raising by hand of the imposing portcullis at 10am; Rosie the UK’s only free-flying Andean condor and world’s largest bird of prey with a wingspan of 10ft; the largest working siege engine the trebuchet in action; knights competing in a joust and the castle’s resident archer displaying his skills.

Visitors can dress up and help solve the enchanted riddle in the magical Princess Tower, journey back to 1471 to experience the sights, sounds and smells of mediaeval England and experience the castle dungeon and gaol.

By contrast people can take a gentle stroll through the magnificent Great Hall and soak up the majestic state rooms with their lavish interiors before head to the recently-opened and beautifully refurbished conservatory tea house.

Anyone who wants to stay at the castle can choose from the opulent Tower suites in the 14th century tower or mediaeval glamping under canvas - an exclusive fully set-up, ready-to-sleep experience, including evening entertainment - Have-A-Go archery, Jester’s School and Knight’s School - plus breakfast.
