A CATSHILL couple have been celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary.

Sheila and Rex Trueman, of Westfields, celebrated their 60th anniversary on Thursday, (August 21).

The pair were married at Holy Trinity Church, in Lickey Hills, in 1954.

They met as teenagers at a dance at the Austin Motor Company.

After Rex did his national service in the Royal Engineers, he joined a partnership at Tanyard Garage, Alvechurch, while Sheila worked in the planning office at the Austin, as a shorthand typist.

Later in life they moved to live in Rubery, Rex taking a job as a technical librarian at Austin, eventually becoming the archivist at the Heritage Motor Centre in Gaydon.

The couple now live in Catshill, and have one daughter, Anita, and one grandson, Bradley.

They enjoy travelling including cruises, dancing and socialising, while Rex is an accomplished musician on the electric organ.

They celebrated the milestone anniversary with their family at Brockencote Hall in Chaddesley Corbett.

The couple say the secret to their long and happy marriage is laughter, friendship and compromise.
